A Day in the Dales
On Wednesday, August 15th, 48 U3A members left
Marple for a day in the Yorkshire
dales. In spite of
a weather
forecast promising
heavy rain and gusty winds, we looked forward to an interesting day
visiting
Kettlewell Scarecrow
Festival and Grassington.
Calling en route for coffee and biscuits we arrived at
Grassington at 12 noon in pouring rain and soon disappeared
into cafes and pubs
for lunch. Suitably
refreshed, we left
this pretty village at 1.30 and arrived in Kettlewell at 2pm.
As we left the coach
we were advised to pray
for a dry afternoon so that we could stroll around the village
and
enjoy the
scarecrows. Who
could doubt the power of
prayer when the rain immediately stopped, the sun came
out and we had a
wonderful time viewing the tableaux and finishing in the Village Hall
garden
for afternoon tea in
the sunshine!
Leaving Kettlewell at 4.30 and heading for home everyone
agreed that they had had a really lovely day.
We had
been kept entertained on the coach with
a quiz and a competition
with prizes of wine for the winners.
A lot of work goes into arranging outings such as this
and a vote of thanks was given to Minnie for a happy,
interesting day in
beautiful Yorkshire
